Signs To Watch For

So, here’s what you can look for if you’re worried about bats. First off, open your ears. One thing you’ll hear is scratching noises as the critters scurry about your attic and walls. They also make chirping noises as they try to communicate with each other and navigate around your living space. These signs will be most prominent when it’s dark out, so listen hard in the early mornings, evenings, and at night.

You’ll also likely notice bat guano (or bat droppings) throughout your home and at typical entry and exit points for the creatures. You will typically see these droppings in your attic, basement, porches, windowsills, or back decks. Keep an open eye, though, because they could show up anywhere!

And if you don’t see guano, you are likely to smell it. It has a strong and unpleasant odor, that is typically associated with the smell of ammonia.

You could also look out for more bats. They are most likely to appear in early mornings or later at night, after dark. Try to spot the critters before they fly away. Then, get a professional on the phone fast to avoid more issues down the line.
